SIX. i ship based solely on chemistry. oliver is typically receptive because he’s a whore but if something just isn’t clicking, please respect that! also, please keep in mind that while oliver is a flirt by default, often he doesn't mean much by it.SEVEN. i do love steamy plots... that said, i'm particular about who i feel comfortable writing smut with & will do so infrequently. usually a short time-skip works just fine.EIGHT. i use small text, photo line-breaks, & medium gifs, though often i go iconless. i don’t care how you format. graphics are fun, but writing is what matters.in the same vein: i use xkit to cut posts, but it’s not a big deal if you don’t. they’ll get trimmed when they come back to me anyway.NINE. by default i write third-person multi-para. my responses have a habit of growing the further we get into a thread. don't feel pressured to match length! as long as you give me at least a few sentences to work with, we're good.TEN. banned faceclaims: anyone who has passed away, is under 18 in the source, or has explicitly said they don’t want to be used. beyond that, if there's an issue i’ll approach you about it.

BIOGRAPHY. though he proved himself to be a bright boy early on, oliver always fell short in social contexts. throughout his school years he relied heavily on a “fake it ‘til you make it” approach, but his peers could tell he was faulty somehow & he spent his formative years mostly friendless. he learnt early on that keeping his nose in a book was an easy way to avoid the problem of rejection altogether, though it never quite filled the void left by the lack of connection.outside of school, growing up was generally uninteresting business. two older sisters who were obnoxious but never cruel, annual summer holidays, a mum & dad who loved each other & supported him as best as he would let them. it should have been pleasant enough. oliver wanted for little....except, oliver wanted a lot—only, not things that were tangible & certainly not things he could acquire with any amount of money. he wanted un-obligate attention & genuine understanding. at times he wanted to be outside of himself, to occupy someone else's skin for a change, or maybe to sink further inside himself so he didn't have to face the world any longer. but above all, he wanted someone to look at him and feel desire, in whatever way that might manifest.

FURTHER NOTES. oliver has undiagnosed borderline personality disorder. later in life, he also suffers from substance use disorder & agoraphobia.because of his bpd, oliver is susceptible to imprinting on people in a categorically unhealthy manner. if unfamiliar with the term "favorite person" in relation to BPD, please read the following:"A F.P. is a person who someone with BPD relies heavily on for emotional support, seeks attention and validation from, and looks up to or idealizes. F.P.s are the object of complete attachment and extreme love from people with BPD. those with BPD feel unable to function properly without their F.P. and fear that their F.P. will abandon them." (National institute of health)the mun writes their portrayal respectfully from a place of both personal experience & research. i am more than willing to field comments/questions about these aspects of oliver's character in my writing, either privately or via asks.

#arc 01. oliver is 18-20, a student at oxford university. he's a literature student there on merit scholarship, having a difficult time finding his place.#arc 02. everything taking place during the significant time-skip in the film… in other words, after Oliver’s Once-in-a-Lifetime, Hand Job on a Haybale, Golden, Big-boy Summer™ but before he manages to acquire the saltburn estate.after all that happened over the course of the summer, he can't bear to return to oxford. he drops out & uses the sizeable sum gifted to him by sir james catton to pave a way for himself (& attempt to recover in the aftermath), abandoning everything he's familiar with in the interest of finding another way to be. a majority of plots will fall here by default. age ranges anywhere from 20 to low 30s.#arc 03. oliver owns the saltburn estate outright & stagnates inside of it. mid-30s & beyond, lifestyle choices & motivations variable.
